A Mid-Year Reflection on Progress and Impact

July 1, 2026

As we reach the midpoint of 2026, I am proud to reflect on the momentum HACIA has built and the progress we continue to make on behalf of our members, industry partners, and the communities we serve.

The first half of the year has been marked by growth, collaboration, and a continued commitment to advancing opportunities for diverse construction professionals and small businesses. Every milestone achieved reflects the collective efforts of our members, Board of Directors, staff, partners, and supporters who help uplift HACIA’s mission.

This year also marks a personal milestone as I celebrate five years serving as Executive Director of HACIA. Looking back, I am proud of how far we have come: a stronger organization, a deeper bench of leaders, and an expanding presence of policy and industry influence. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside leaders who share a vision of creating opportunity, strengthening our industry, and building a more inclusive future for construction.

  • More than 30 new members welcomed to the HACIA community

  • New Board and staff additions strengthening HACIA’s capacity for the future

Advocacy That Advances Our Industry

Advocacy remains a cornerstone of HACIA’s mission. This year, we continued to elevate the voices of our members through conversations that shape the future of construction, infrastructure, workforce development, and small business growth.

One of our most significant advocacy efforts this year brought HACIA leadership and industry partners to Washington, D.C., where we convened a National Coalition for Pro-Growth, Pro-Business in Federal Transportation Projects alongside partners from across the country. During that visit, we met directly with congressional offices and with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Small and Disadvantage Business Utilization to advocate for policies that expand access and create more competitive opportunities for small businesses. .Our commitment to advocacy extends beyond a single event or meeting. At the state and local levels, we remain steadfast on advancing policies and initiatives that create opportunity, support economic growth, and strengthen pathways for businesses and workers to succeed.

Strengthening Connections Across Our Industry

Building meaningful relationships continues to be one of HACIA’s greatest strengths.

During the first half of the year, HACIA hosted 10 events, five of which were major HACIA events, that brought together contractors, business owners, public agencies, elected officials, industry leaders, and community partners. These gatherings created opportunities for networking, education, collaboration, and business development while strengthening connections across our industry.

With more than 1,300 attendees participating throughout our events and programs this year, we continue to see strong engagement and growing support for HACIA’s mission. Among these events was our Annual Banquet, the largest event on HACIA’s calendar, a celebration of leadership, achievement, and community.

These events are more than opportunities to gather. They help build relationships, share knowledge, recognize excellence, and strengthen the collective impact of our industry.

Investing in Opportunity Through Our Programs

June marks an important milestone for HACIA as we conclude another successful program cycle and prepare to celebrate our participants during upcoming graduation ceremonies.

Across our workforce development, contractor development, leadership, and industry training programs, nearly 200 participants are preparing to complete their programs. Their achievements reflect the continued growth of our industry and the value of investing in future leaders.

Whether helping individuals jumpstart careers in construction, supporting workers as they develop new skills, or assisting business owners as they grow their companies, HACIA’s programs continue to create pathways to economic mobility and long-term success.

The impact of these programs extends well beyond the classroom. Every graduate contributes to a stronger workforce, stronger businesses, and stronger communities. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to celebrating their success.

Building Strong Leadership for the Future

Strong organizations require strong leadership, and HACIA continues to invest in both.

This year, we welcomed new members to our Board of Directors following our annual elections. Their expertise, perspective, and commitment to service will help guide HACIA as we continue advancing our strategic priorities and long-term vision We are grateful for the dedication of both returning and newly elected Board members and look forward to working together to support our industry and membership.

HACIA has also continued strengthening its internal capacity through strategic investments in our team. New staff additions bring fresh perspectives and expertise that allow us to better serve our members and stakeholders.

Looking Ahead

The first half of 2026 has demonstrated what is possible when dedicated individuals unite around a shared purpose.

I am especially proud of the growth of our organization and the team that makes this work possible every day. As HACIA continues to evolve, our staff has embraced new challenges, expanded our capacity, and strengthened our ability to deliver value to our members. Their professionalism and commitment to excellence are reflected in every program, event, and initiative we deliver

Leadership is not about individual accomplishments. It is about empowering others, fostering collaboration, and creating an environment where people can succeed. I am grateful for the trust and dedication demonstrated by our staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, members, and partners as we work together to advance HACIA’s mission.

While we are proud of the progress we have made, we remain focused on the opportunities ahead. We will continue to advocate for our members, invest in workforce and business development, strengthen industry partnerships, and expand access throughout the construction sector.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Together, we are building more than projects. We are creating opportunity, driving impact, and shaping a stronger future for our industry and communities.

With Gratitude,

Jacqueline Gomez
