When the Executive Fellows Program launched in 2023, it set out with an ambitious mission: to empower minority business owners with the tools, resources, and connections to grow and scale their businesses. Thanks to the support of Chicago Community Trust’s We Rise Together grant, this cohort-based initiative has delivered remarkable results, transforming the trajectory of participating businesses and making a meaningful difference in our community.
By the Numbers
During the last two years, the program has achieved incredible milestones:
- 94% of Executive Fellows report feeling their goals are more attainable after completing the program.
- 100% of participants have expanded their professional networks, building relationships that continue to support their growth.
- Over $1 million was secured in new contracts within just six months of completion.
- Over $1 million in loans were obtained to fuel business expansion and operations.
- 48 participants from 45 companies have completed the program, representing a wide array of industries and innovation.
- The program makeup is 71% Hispanic, 25% Black/African American, including 5 veteran business owners.
These statistics underscore the transformative power of this program, not only in enhancing business acumen but also in unlocking opportunities for success.
Individualized Support for Lasting Growth
At the heart of the Executive Fellows Program is its emphasis on individualized coaching. Each Fellow received group sessions and one-on-one guidance from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Finance, Development, Operations, and Legal fields. Having in-person events and workshops created opportunities to network, learn from each other, and create long-lasting business relationships. This tailored approach enabled participants to tackle unique challenges and set a strong foundation for sustainable growth.
Participants like Harold Blackmon, Founder and Owner of AAA Construction Services, highlight the program’s transformative impact:
“I feel like I was able to tap into a network with my fellow participants and through the subject matter experts in the program. But I also gained valuable knowledge from the experts, like how to analyze my business from a financial standpoint, understanding the legal aspects, and creating workflows for my business.”
Looking Ahead
The Executive Fellows Program has laid the groundwork for a brighter future for minority business owners. While its initial phase was made possible through a partnership with the Chicago Community Trust, we are excited to share that the program will continue to be offered at HACIA. Applications for the next cohort are open and it starts on February 13th. We are looking forward to continuing to foster growth and opportunity within our community.
