HACIA Scholarship Foundation and the Institute for Workforce Education Announce Launch of FREE Contractor Training Program in Aurora, IL
AURORA, IL – The Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) Scholarship Foundation and the Institute for Workforce Education (IWE) at St. Augustine College announced today the launch of their Contractor Training Program (CTP) in Aurora, Illinois.
Enrollment in the Aurora CTP will begin on Monday, March 30th,2015, with a program start date slated for May 11th, 2015. The program, which has been running in Chicago since 2014, provides career advancement and training to individuals in the construction and contracting industries and offers applicants the opportunity to gain critical management skills and certifications that will help strengthen, grow and expand their careers and businesses.
“After successfully developing and implementing the Contractor Training Program in Chicago, we are thrilled to be growing the program and bringing it into Aurora,” said Jorge Perez, Executive Director of HACIA. “Today, it is imperative that smaller companies are given the opportunity to compete for large-scale construction projects, and the Contractor Training Program provides minority-owned small businesses with the tools to effectively compete within the marketplace.”
Those who participate in the CTP are taught skills including how to address OSHA safety concerns, apply technology application to their businesses, initiate green construction best practices, and they are prepared for the LEED Green Associate Certification. The program is taught using interactive and hands-on teaching methods based on adult learning theory, including presentations, demonstrations, activities and multimedia tools.
When asked about his experience participating in the CTP, current student Mike Karwoski of Pinto Construction stated, “I would strongly encourage other individuals working in construction or contracting to participate in this program. There is nothing better to invest in than yourself, and the skills that I learned through the program have really allowed me to grow professionally and become more knowledgeable about the business I work in.”
After successful completion of the course, program graduates are awarded the OSHA 10-Hour or the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Certification and the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification.
